WANDERERS OF WILDERNESS
Wanderers of Wilderness
exhibition of works from ‘Dialogue with Nature’
A Site specific residency of artists
Held at Vaitarna Dam, Igatpuri
Art is nothing but the expression of experiences of nature in subjective time-space, upines ancient Indian thought. All that we have created as art inspires largely from nature, German aesthete Immanuel Kant calls it ‘pure beauty’. Postmodern world is questionably aloof from nature; limited to weekend gateways to a heteropic environment. Artists have rightfully begun questioning this hyper reality, which shouted out as the pandemic engulfed every human on the planet.
The current exhibition comes out of this questioning. It began as an intuitive artist engagement called ‘dialogue with nature’ by young minds who formed the Kanaga Art Foundation. It attempted to resume the lost conversation with nature that was seen pre-industrial revolution, and perhaps still exists in the rural and semi urban areas in India.Â
The camp at Vaitarna in December of 2020 has all the above characteristics yet transcends the mere art and emotional quotient, it rises above as an intervention between the pangs of Covid. Funded by Indxart gallery, It was away from the world, safe, yet a unique sense of togetherness and intimacy prevailed as young creative minds eager to talk, paint, and come out of four walls slowly came in. In the wilderness, camping in tents, having intimate conversations, the Vaitarna camp took shape.Â
It was a beautiful amalgamation of sensual pleasure and emotional gratification; as creative minds indulged in immersive art experiences. We are finally putting our experience out for all to see, the artworks created during the camp by a group of twenty odd artists have been put up here. The camp holds a special place in our heartsÂ
